Welcome to
Active City 2025: York
The UK’s most popular networking event for active travel professionals showcases success, innovation and best practice in the creation of active, vibrant places.
Active City York 2025, Active Travel England’s annual active travel summit, is presented by Landor LINKS in partnership with Active Travel England and City of York Council.
Active Travel England (ATE) is an executive agency, sponsored by the Department for Transport. Led by National Active Travel Commissioner, Chris Boardman CBE, ATE’s mission is to increase the number of people walking, wheeling and cycling as part of their everyday trips.
In 2025 Active City York will see more than 400 active travel professionals welcomed to York for two days of conference seminars, tours, case studies and active travel site visits, all run alongside Active Travel England-led funding, support and guidance sessions.

Active City 2025 – the 12th year of the UK's most popular networking event for active travel professionals - will spotlight the latest research and concepts to create a blueprint for active, vibrant places. This year’s themes will be:
-
Designing inclusive and accessible neighbourhoods
-
Walking the walk: how walkable places can transform communities
-
Consultation and business case development
-
Connecting communities: urban and rural
The Department for Transport has pledged that the Government will invest “unprecedented levels of funding” in active travel as part of a national integrated transport strategy going into 2025. This support will enable councils and their stakeholders to deliver healthy and active transport choices.
"If we want millions more people to walk, wheel and cycle to schools, shops and workplaces, we need to give them what they need to make the switch,' says Chris Boardman, National Active Travel Commissioner.
Active City 2025 will focus on inclusivity and accessibility, in the interests of improving health, boosting access to amenities and better connecting communities.
Key themes for 2025 will be:
-
Designing inclusive and accessible neighbourhoods
-
How walkable places can transform communities
-
Consultation and business case development
-
Connecting communities: urban and rural

“ATE is helping to deliver the Government's missions, particularly around health and growth. Active travel underpins successful public transport networks and is an important part of delivering sustainable, inclusive and well-designed places”
Graham Grant, Director of Planning and Development, Active Travel England
